Art Sanctuary Welcomes back Nicky Bendix; A truly Inspirational Collaborator!

Nicky Bendix (DK) ,  award winning musician and composer from Denmark, has already been very successful in ‘The Enchanted Garden’  - his live concerts and 2 Art Sanctuary Special Edition CD’s – played as sound installations, have received much acclaim by our visitors.

Nicky Bendix specializes in crossover art that combines sound and music with words, sculptures, paintings and many other medias. This year he returns with a whole new project:
'Nord Profond' - the album
in collaboration with French artist, Francois Monnet, also exhibiting at Art Sanctuary with his very special collection of 'kakemonos' and photos (See introduction of Francois Monnet).
 'Nord Profond' - the album: (parts of which will be experienced as a sound installation during the exhibition) - of which 'C'est le rêve' , by Olav H. Hauge is the poem which has inspired the Theme of 'The Enchanted Garden', 2011 - 2013.

A meeting between French actor and artist Francois Monnet and Danish composer Nicky Bendix, resulted in the creation of a spoken word album, based on the French translation of the poems of legendary Norwegian poet Olav Hauge. Francois Monnet lived for ten years in Norway and has published the book ”Nord Profond” in France - a collection of poems by Olav Hauge translated into French.
Meeting in Nicky Bendix's studio in Denmark, the two artists layed the foundation for the CD and recorded Francois Monnet reciting the poems. Nicky Bendix has since been sculpting the music and sounds around the poems, creating a contemporary soundscape with a classical touch, mixed with sounds from the Scandinavian nature and electronic instruments.

An extra feature is guest artist Miriam Monnet Kielberg, violinist, composer and daughter of Francois Monnet. Miriam studies folk music at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts in Odense, Denmark. She contributes to the album with one of her original compositions, her singing and her virtuos violin playing.

At Art Sanctuary 2013 a selection of Olav Hauge poems from this collaboration will be presented, in connection with some of Francois Monnets other artworks.

Nicky Bendix is contributing music for 'Forest Temple', an installation by Tone Aanderaa;

- "FOREST TEMPLE" - music installation.
Recorded and composed for the international outdoor exhibition Art Sanctuary, opening june 28th in Jodoigne, Belgium.  Music to be played inside a small forest temple, decorated with the works of norwegian painter Tone Aanderaa. A place to connect with the Spiritual forces of nature and your own, immortal self.

Welcoming Jean de la Kethulle - Seeing with the Eye of Chicara

Jean de la Kethulle (B) is landscape architect by education, and he believes that every landscape is beautiful "by nature".  Combining earth and concrete, his sculptures are designed to ‘facilitate’ a very special visual experience, not only of this ‘Enchanted Garden’, but the entire landscape surrounding it – in a whole new way.

Architecte paysagiste de formation, Jean de la Kethulle est convaincu que tout paysage est beau «par nature». Mêlant terre et béton, ses sculptures sont conçues pour «faciliter» une expérience visuelle très spéciale, non seulement de ce «Jardin Enchanté», mais aussi de l'ensemble du paysage qui l'entoure – d’une toute nouvelle façon.

Jean de la Kethulle (B), van opleiding landschapsarchitect, is deze beeldhouwer ervan overtuigd dat elk landschap spontaan mooi is. Hij ontwerpt zijn beelden in leem-beton vanuit het oogpunt van de esthetische waarde door een andere bril op te zetten en te ... genieten.  Deze kunstenaar is van mening dat zijn beelden als dusdanig bijkomstig zijn, daar deze fungeren als hulpmiddel om de belevingswaarde van de omgeving te optimaliseren. Zijn beeldeninstallatie zal dan ook “De Betoverende Tuin” en het landschap errond in het middelpunt plaatsen.

Welcoming back Laura Frennet - a Painter at Heart

Laura Frennet (F/B): is a painter by heart and occupation. In all her work, her love of nature, and especially trees, is ever-present:  «Each tree is a witness to a place and history, and in its own way it will communicate with Man and Nature. To me a single sentence says it all: ‘Never forget that you are the tree, always protect the communication with your roots, and let their Energy raise you up to the sky.’ »

This year Laura Frennet journeys to the center of ‘The Enchanted Garden’, below an old oak tree, with her long held dream...to make a mandala;
"It is a form based on the original circle, which has existed in nature since the dawn of time. “It is present in all manifestations of life: atoms, cells, and snowflakes, the embryo, the hurricane, and the solar system, the iris, and the prints of our fingers ...  For millennia, it has been used in religious and secular cultures: art rituals, stone circles and megaliths in prehistoric astronomical observatories, diagrams commercial development plans of companies, astrological, zodiac ...  It occupies an important place in the history of architecture, from ancient structures to the modern buildings: houses, Hindu and Buddhist temples, mosques, pyramids, cathedrals, city maps ..."

Elle est un peintre de cœur et de profession. Dans tout son travail, son amour de la nature, et des arbres en particulier, est toujours présent.«Chaque arbre étant le témoin d’un lieu et d’une histoire, il est capable par son langage de communiquer avec l’Homme et la Nature entière. De là, le fil conducteur de ma pensée vise l’authenticité, la force et la puissance et peut être relié à une seule phrase: «N’oublie jamais l’arbre que tu es, garde toujours le contact avec tes racines et laisse monter en toi leur Energie pour t’élever vers le ciel».»

Cette année, Laura Frennet voyage vers le centre du jardin enchanté,  ci-dessous un vieux chêne, avec son rêve de longue terme,  pour faire un mandala.

"C’est une forme originelle basée sur le cercle, qui  existe dans la nature depuis la nuit des temps. Il est présent dans toutes les manifestations de la vie : l’atome, la cellule et l’embryon ; le flocon de neige, l’ouragan et le système solaire ; les cristaux, les formes ondulatoires  et les cônes volcaniques ; la pâquerette et la rose ; la toile d’araignée, l’étoile de mer et l’œuf d’oiseau ;  le globule rouge, l’iris de l’œil et les empreintes de nos doigts… Il représente le modèle parfait de la structure de l’organisation de la vie autour d’un centre unificateur. Depuis des millénaires, il a été employé dans les cultures religieuses et profanes : objets d’art rituels, cercles de pierre et mégalithes à la préhistoire, observatoires astronomiques, diagrammes commerciaux, plans de développement des sociétés, cartes du ciel, zodiaque… Il occupe une place importante dans l’histoire de l’architecture depuis les anciennes structures jusqu’aux édifices modernes : habitations, temples hindous et bouddhistes, mosquées, pyramides,  cathédrales chrétiennes,  sépultures, plans des villes…"

Welcoming Jan Leenknegt - Glass art (B)

Jan Leenknegt (B):  “Art begins with light. Through the effects of light and dark, artist creates his universe. In sculpture the light plays with the spatial dimensions. In glass art the light radiates from within. The objects of Leenknegt reflect an intensely thoughtful use of materials and their properties, which perhaps may be read best as a spatial poem. In the poetry of Leenknegt's objects, the sun is a dream; a magic lantern which lights up the night as bright as day. All this in the unexpected possibilities of rhythmic organization.”

“I grew up in my father’s studio, among the beautiful mouth blown glass ... Themes to work with I have plenty of;  the elements, the cosmos, in short, life on and around the planet in all its forms. I want to co-create. I make my own world ... "

 

“Kunst begint bij licht. Door licht-donker effecten te creëren schept de schilder zijn universum. In de beeldhouwkunst speelt licht met de ruimtelijke dimensies. In glaskunst straalt het licht van binnenuit. De objecten van Leenknegt weerspiegelen een intens doordacht gebruik van materialen en hun eigenschappen, die het beste als een ruimtelijk gedicht gelezen kunnen worden. In de poëzie van Leenknegt’s objecten wordt de zon een droom; het licht een toverlantaarn en de nacht net zo stralend als de dag. Dit alles in de onverwachte mogelijkheden van ritmische ordening

Ik groeide werkelijk op in het atelier van mijn vader, tussen het mooie mondgeblazen glas... Thema’s waarrond ik werk heb ik wel. De elementen, de kosmos, kortom het leven op en rond deze planeet in al zijn vormen. Ik wil nog bij-scheppen. Ik maak mijn eigen wereld…”

 

“L'art commence avec la lumière. Par les effets de lumière et l'obscurité, l'artiste crée son univers. Dans les œuvres tridimensionnelles, la lumière joue avec les dimensions spatiales. Dans l'art du verre,  la lumière irradie de l'intérieur. Les objets de Leenknegt  reflètent une utilisation issue d’une réflexion intense des matériaux et de leurs propriétés, ce qui peut lire comme un poème spatial. Dans la poésie des objets de Leenknegt, le soleil est un rêve, une lanterne magique qui illumine la nuit comme en plein jour. Tout cela dans les possibilités insoupçonnées de l'organisation rythmique."

We welcome Niels Eje - and MusiCure - Music as Medicine

Niels Eje (DK) is an award winning composer of music for concerts, theater, TV, and documentaries. ‘MusiCure’  is a large collection of compositions resulting from  the research project "Musica Humana” 'Music as Medicine' (est. 1998) in collaboration with Professor Lars Heslet, aimed at creating and scientifically documenting a new healing sound and music environment. Selections from MusiCure can be experienced throughout the exhibition period.

Niels Eje (DK) is een prijswinnende componist van concerten, muziek voor theater, TV en documentaries. ‘MusiCure’ is een grote verzameling van composities die een gevolg zijn van het onderzoeksproject “Musica Humana” (Muziek als middel om te genezen, gestart in 1998) in samenwerking met professor Lars Heslet. Het doel was om op een wetenschappelijke wijze een nieuwe therapeutische omgeving te creeren en te documenteren. De MusiCure muziek zal te beluisteren zijn gedurende de tentoonstelling.

Welcoming Sandra De Clerck - Anachronistic confusion in glass

“Ever since the beginning of my artistic career in 1993, I have been specializing in the narrative and expressive possibilities of glass using a wide range of glass techniques such as stained glass, blown glass, kiln casted glass and ‘pate de verre’, to express my ideas. In my approach, I attempt more and more to bring this medium to a larger autonomy, apart from utilitarian or decorative ends. I recycle old techniques to process and revitalize contemporary themes. I use the anachronistic confusion as a character style and this is further substantively continued in my latest work.”
Sandra De Clerck is  also the head of the IKA glass department at the institute of arts and crafts in Mechelen and in recent years curator of glass exhibitions in museums in Europe.
Her work is represented in private and museum collections around the world.”

«Depuis le début de ma carrière artistique en 1993, je me suis spécialisée dans les possibilités narratives et expressives du travail du verre. J’ai utilisé un large éventail de techniques comme le vitrail, le verre soufflé, le verre coulé four et «la pâte de verre», pour exprimer mes idées. Je souhaite donner  aux  matériaux un  maximum d’autonomie, en dehors des fins utilitaires ou décoratives. J’utilise d’anciennes techniques pour traiter et revitaliser des thèmes contemporains. J’emploie la confusion anachronique comme un style et cela est encore le cas dans mon dernier travail. »

Sandra De Clerck est également à la tête du département du travail du verre a l’IKA, Institut des arts et métiers à Malines et récemment, organisatrice d'expositions en verre dans plusieurs musées d'Europe.
Ses œuvres sont exposées dans des collections privées et de musées à travers le monde. "
